Standards work

I implement and contribute to IETF standards for secure-messaging interoperability — the MLS (RFC 9420) and MIMI working groups, and the surrounding media/keying work (SFrame).

The approach: build a real, running conformance implementation of an in-progress draft, and mark exactly where the wire format is still open rather than silently asserting a guess. A wrong-but-flagged encoding is a success of method; a right-but-silently-asserted one is luck.

Internet-Drafts & contributions

First Internet-Draft in preparation (MIMI ⟷ SFrame-MLS integration). Published drafts will be listed here and on my IETF datatracker profile.

Areas

• MLS — Messaging Layer Security (RFC 9420): group key agreement in production.
• MIMI — More Instant Messaging Interoperability: cross-provider messaging + the open A/V integration seam.
• SFrame — MLS-keyed end-to-end media encryption.
